A Shelter Friend contacted us in October about "Moose" a big, but thin, 3 year old yellow lab who didn't stand a chance in the shelter because of his heartworm and unhealthy appearance.  He was surrendered by his owners who said they didn't want him because he "couldn't" gain weight.

Thanks to the generosity of the Forte children, who held a lemonade stand to raise money for Butterscotch, we were able to rescue him before his time had run out. After some deliberation, they settled on the name "Butterscotch" and were so happy to hear their efforts allowed them to save a dog in need.  They were no doubt inspired by their mom Leslie.

Butterscotch on arrival to DC
When Butterscotch arrived to DC, he was very thin, but after a couple of weeks with City Dogs Rescue, he is already well on his way back to a healthy weight.

Although he is a big guy, Butterscotch is very gentle and laid-back. Because of his personality, he was a great choice for a large dog in the city. He loves walking around town and doesn't even pull on the leash at all. This handsome boy is very loving and playful. Butterscotch is a fantastic, all-around great dog that stole the hearts of all at CDR in no time at all.

Dustin and Maura with Butterscotch
When Butterscotch arrived he didn't have a foster home so he stayed at City Dogs Daycare where our dog walkers enjoyed walking him.  When Maura's friend Dustin signed up for dogwalking, she met Butterscotch for the first time.  After that, long-time CDR supporter and volunteer Maura decided to offer Butterscotch a leg up in adoption process by becoming his foster mom. Being in a home makes all the difference for a rescue dog and it was no different in the case of Butterscotch.

Butterscotch had fun with Maura
Butterscotch thrived in his foster home with Maura. We have a truly amazing network at City Dogs Rescue because Butterscotch found his forever family through another volunteer and foster: Melissa!

We're pleased to announce that Butterscotch is going to his forever family tonight.  For his last day in foster, Maura celebrated with Butterscotch by letting him have some Frosty Paws puppy ice cream.

Maura's fostering journey is not stopping here either! Her next foster dog will be Oscar from Rutherford County, NC. Oscar has been waiting for rescue for months and we can't wait to see how our next rescue story unfolds.

Thank you to everyone who helped Butterscotch on his way to his forever home. We couldn't do it without our wonderful supporters.
